I believe one of the most important things you can do for your mental, physical and spiritual health is having a movement practice in your day. This type of wellness practice is exciting because it can really be any kind of movement you want! There are no rules to this one, anything that involves moving your body works great. From putting on your favorite playlist and dancing around the house to dynamic stretching, walking, strength training or hot yoga. These are just a few ways to get your heart rate up and blood flowing.
If you spend most of your day sitting at a desk or in front of a computer screen, remembering to take time to get up and move around every few hours is key. Our bodies are not meant to be inactive for long periods of time. So, when we sit for a while, our muscles start to tighten, and our posture starts to suffer. Adding even just 10 minutes of movement into our day can help to reduce that tension and improve our posture.
The benefits of a daily movement practice are limitless. A few of my favorite benefits include increased energy, boost in mood, reduced stress levels and more confidence. In addition to all those incredible benefits, moving your body regularly can also lead to less chronic pain, improved symptoms of anxiety and depression, weight management and often better sleep quality as well! Who wouldn’t want all that?
You can do whatever type of movement you enjoy and whatever fits into your schedule. If you’re short on time, try adding in a few minutes of stretching or taking a quick 10-minute walk around the block during your lunch break. That will have more of an impact than you might think. If you have more time, try going for a run or taking a workout class you’ve been eyeing up. It doesn’t matter what you do as long as you make it a priority to get out there and move every day!
I hope this sparks excitement and conveys how essential it is to mix movement into your day. Remember, there are no rules so find what works for you and make it part of your daily routine. Trust me, your mind and body will thank you for it!
